So cute! I worked lily into it by always checking to be sure it wasn't pulling her hair (kinda pulling the elastic back out the tiniest bit) making a big fuss over how cute it is, then when she looked like she was going to pull them, make an big fuss over going to see her in the mirror(or looking in a compact which is somehow better?) We also talked about how they looked like bunny ears/Teddy bear ears/panda/elephant/whatever the heck she was into that minute.
All of those things work for us in the house, but once she gets in the car and we aren't eyeballing her anymore she yanks them right out. Boo! Maybe soon we can bribe her to keep them in longer.
